Okay, most women like to shop. I’m no different. I can usually find something in any store that I’d like to wear, as long as it’s a funky style. Conservative, I’m not, never have been. I’m very creative with clothes and can visualize what something will look like on me without trying it on, most of the time. Well, one day I was minding my own business walking on Fifth Avenue in New York City when I stumbled upon a clothing store based out of Spain, called Desigual. Upon entering the premises, I was immediately struck by the artistic construct, design and colors of the pieces. I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without making a purchase. I ended up buying a pair of smoke colored good quality cotton parachute/balloon trousers. I love roomy pants and these were reminiscent of M.C. Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” Arabian pants he wore in the 1980’s. I fell in love with the embroidery on the side leg that said simply, “Love”. Anywhoo, I didn’t try them on in the store. I was confident they’d fit just fine. Well, when I got home and put them on, I was correct, the fit was perfect. I fell deeper in love when I put together a whole outfit with top and ‘stank’ Jambu clogs. Bam!! The finished outfit was hot and more hot. Desiqual became my fast friend right then. I ordered more pieces online following that first purchase in Manhattan. Then, just recently, I was lunching with my niece in Yonkers at Ridge Hill Mall, and shaazam!! I discovered a Desiqual boutique, bright halo around it, just one block from the Cheesecake Factory (which, by the way, has the most delicious pomegranate margaritas). I could not resist visiting my new friend again. Well, wouldn’t you know it, Desigual has a stock of brand new rags for the fall season. I bought two tops (one was embroidered with red lips in a kissing pose), which I tried on in the store (the sizes on the labels were odd- I didn’t want to take the chance of an ill-fit). Futile worry on my part, they both fit well. To make matters worse, I attended a book event in Baltimore and ran into Bob Baldwin (jazz great) who complimented me on my Desigual ensemble. He, too, was fashioned in Desigual apparel. Bob Baldwin is an enabler, because now I feel the unending desire to make more purchases from Desiqual. I need rehab.
