Tis The Season For Clearance Sales

Tis the season for clearance sales.  It’s amazing how cheap you can get stuff that was obviously way over-priced when in season.  I mean, I recently purchased furniture, rugs, clothes, blankets, et al, that were up to 80% off the original prices.  Seriously!  For example, I bought a nice, thick, soft, 100% cashmere sweater from Loehman’s for just over $20 bucks.  That’s absurd, huh?  Of course, however, I had to sift through the clearance rack, tossing aside piece by piece before I found the gem of a garment that wasn’t stretched or tattered or —  you know what I mean, just outright raggedy.  But wait!  There’s more.  This is the golden egg!!!  I found, also in Loehman’s, a pair of tan ALL LEATHER  skinny pants by Rachel Zoe.  According to the original price tag, they were nearly $400 when in season.  But, I got them (in my size- mind you) for just over $100 bucks.  Can you believe it?  That just goes to show how high things are marked up in retail.  It’s a darn shame, I tell you.   Which is why I try to buy most things on sale.  It’s the practical and smart thing to do.  I could care less if something is out of season.  If I like it, it fits well and looks good on me or looks good in my house or in my personal space, I can make it work in any season.  Oh yeah, when I say  ‘season’, I mean style season, not the weather; well maybe that, too.  Heck, I still wear things that were in ‘season’ ten years ago and no one knows the wiser, because I know how to creatively incorporate my wardrobe with what’s hip and happening.  Lastly, I bought from Urban Outfitters a pair of rose colored metallic wedge heel shoes.  Ready?  They were $20 on clearance.  What???   Yes and yes.  I couldn’t believe it.  They are my new feet candy.  Yum!

P.S.  Let’s not forget about the abundant sample sales  all over City during New York’s Fashion Week a few weeks ago.  Sample sales occur throughout the year in New York City, but I found some special treasures during Fashion Week, especially accessories and shoes.
